THE HISTORY
of The Nest Collective
Hey there!
We're your hosts, Jilayne + Doug
In 2020, the world was forced to look inward, and if we were lucky, we isolated with close friends and family. As humans, we created an improved definition for the word 'Nesting.' According to Wikipedia, Nest building is often driven by a biological urge to protect their offspring, or themselves, from danger. And, this my friends, is where the idea began...
Living through a pandemic forced us personally to prioritize a little differently. To recognize quality over quantity and find ways in the chaos to reel it in, slow it down, and create a space for peace, family, friends and of course, adventure. Travel looked different, trips were cancelled, tears were shed and online learning allowed for a more fluid home base, among the chaos of course.
The silver lining for our family, personally, came in the form of summertime Colorado mountain getaways, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking and hiking. We were outdoors, we were breathing fresh air and this simplicity quickly became our happy place. And so, the original "Nest" was born. Initially a collaborative purchase, in the quiet neighborhood of WilderNEST, in Silverthorne, Colorado. Hosting came about ironically by accident, yet sparked a passion and a pure joy for hosting families and creating incredible lifelong memories.
The Collective represents a vision we have in working together for the common good. Networking amongst hosting professionals and raising the bar for short term rentals, therefore improving its reputation within the community and finding ways to give back. The Collective's goal is to value community collaboration, not competition. We hope you love our Collective and feel right at home at any of our properties.
Since the 'OG' Nest of 2020, our family has now renovated 3 mountain homes in Colorado, and shared them with hundreds of guests over the years. We have since sold 2 of those beautiful properties and have thoroughly enjoyed the launch of our largest Vacation Rental in the Collective, White Birch Nest, in Northwest Michigan, overlooking the most incredible waters of Crystal Lake. Hosting so many incredible families over the years has brought us so much joy in creating memories for others that we hope to continue providing an elevated, comfort focused and experiential stay for others in a boutique-mom-and-pop style of hospitality.
So, what are you waiting for...go ahead and pack a bag, round up the kids and don't forget the pup...we likely have the rest waiting for you!
Be good, do good
Cheers,
